I’m a multidisciplinary visual artist, focusing on themes related to neurodiversity, OCD, and my journey through eating distress. Some of the consequences of living with these conditions are that rigour, routine & attention to detail are fundamental to my way of life, all of which are integral to my creative practice. Formally, my work is an exploration of abstraction and the relationship between colour, pattern and composition (layers, balance and rhythm).
One of the ways I cope with my condition is to chronicle my cultural & health experiences in graphic art diaries which I publish online. Making a diary a day since March 2020, I now have over 1200. In June 2020 I was commissioned by New Writing North to create Home Time - a diary and journaling tool, suitable for everyone who is interested in reflecting on their daily activities during and beyond Covid 19. I was also commissioned by The For Solidarity network to create a diary template that was printed in the Lockdown Gazette for people to record their own Lockdown experiences.
My work is regularly exhibited in solo & group exhibitions & is contained in a variety of public collections. I have a number of public artworks, have been commissioned to produce site-specific work & have taken part in national & international residencies.
In April 2017 I gained Arts Council England Grants for the Arts funding for my project ‘Voices: Within and Without’, in which I worked with other voice hearers, artists, researchers, academics and Mental Health organisations to investigate auditory hallucinations, the experience of hearing voices.
My collection of short texts, A lot can happen in fifteen minutes, was published by the independent publishing House UnStapled Press in September 2016. In October 2017 I self-published Portion Control as part of REALITY CHECK, a group exhibition at The NewBridge Project : Gateshead. I am currently writing a creative memoir based on my experience of Anorexia Nervosa and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
I work collaboratively with David Foggo as marginendeavour, using text, collage, installation and sound to explore our affinities with language.
